FC4 Upgrade = No Screensavers [Jul. 6th, 2005|08:21 pm]
Fedora Newbies

[Current Music |Nine Inch Nails - All The Love In The World]

I upgraded successfully from Fedora Core 2 to Fedora Core 4 from CD with little hassle (some non-standard RPMs had to be rebuilt/reinstalled). However, now there's only one screensaver showing up in the system's list (which doesn't even work--it throws some sort of an xscreensaver error), wheras before the upgrade there were maybe fifty or so.

Is there a reason all of the screensavers were removed and not upgraded? Is there a way to get all of them back? Does Fedora Core 4 really only have one--non-functional--screensaver?

EDIT: I'm using GNOME, in case it makes a difference.

yum install xscreensaver-extras
yum install xscreensaver-gl-extras

They were split ( along with many other packages ) in order to reduce the bloat in "core" fedora. The goal was to keep i386 FC4 to at most 4 cd's.

The GNOME menu is different... some default applicaitons are different... removable media is accessible in /media instead of /mnt now... some artwork is different...

Other than that, I haven't really noticed anything life-changing.
